Tinubu Releases Four Months Withheld Salaries Of ASUU, Suspends No Work No Pay Order.



President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has ordered a partial waiver on the No Work No Pay order imposed on the Academic Staffs Union Of Universities ASUU.

President Tinubu also ordered the immediate release of the four months withheld salaries of the Union.

Recall that the Academic Staffs Union Of Universities ASUU,had embarked on an indefinite strike action which lasted for 8months in 2022 following a disagreement, and failure of former President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration in meeting their demands.

After various deliberations and measures to made by the Buhari’s administration for ASUU to call off the strike ended in deadlock, the Federal government imposed a No Work No Pay order on the Union in a bid to get call off the strike.

Also the four months salaries of ASUU beginning from may to September 2022 was withheld by the federal government.

President Tinubu in view of his determination to mitigate the difficulties being felt during the implementation of key economic reforms in the country, as well as his recognition of the faithful implementation of terms which were agreed upon during the fruitful deliberations between ASUU and the Federal Government of Nigeria, President Bola Tinubu has directed the grant of an exceptional last waiver of the “No Work, No Pay” Order on ASUU.

According to Ajuri Ngelela, the Special Adviser on Media and publicity to President Tinubu in a statement,said that the waiver  will allow for the previously striking members of ASUU to receive four (4) months of salary accruals out of the eight months of salary which was withheld during the eight-month industrial action undertaken by the union.

According the statement ,Mr President also directed the grant of the waiver with a mandatory requirement that the Federal Ministry of Education and the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment must secure a Document of Understanding (DoU) establishing that the exceptional waiver granted by the President will be the last one to be granted to the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and all other Education Sector Unions.
