Remanding Of Gerald Irona In : Uzodimma’s Plot To Eliminate Opposition In Imo State -PDP.

The People’s Democratic Party PDP Imo State chapter has blasted the governor of the state Senator Hope Uzodimma over what they tagged plot to eliminate the voice of opposition in the state.

This is coming after the former deputy governor of Imo State under Emeka Ihedioha administration, and a PDP chieftain Chief Gerald Irona was arrested by Imo State police under the command of the state government, and remanded in custody by the state magistrate court on Wednesday.

According to a press statement by Collins Opurozor State Publicity Secretary of Imo PDP, said that the action of governor Hope Uzodimma of political vendetta.

Opuruzor stated that even when the police had granted Irona administrative bail and all the necessary conditions in the bail bond fulfilled, governor Uzodinma still chose to keep him in police custody simply with the intention of getting a willing magistrate that would do the dirty job of committing the former Deputy Governor to prison.

He further alledged that as for Imo PDP, the whole persecution ofthe former deputy governor Irona, points to the desperation of governor Uzodinma to eliminate opposition leaders in Imo State so as to establish an empire where his bloodthirsty reign will go unchallenged and where his will shall be law.

• Decries Intimidation of Magistrates, Manipulation of Judiciary for Political Vendetta

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Imo State condemns in the strongest terms the continued persecution of the former Deputy Governor of the State, Rt. Hon. Gerald Irona, by the APC-led administration of Senator Hope Uzodinma.

At the early hours of yesterday, March 8, 2023, security operatives working for the Imo State Government invaded the Owerri residence of the former Deputy Governor and terrorized everyone they could see. When the former Deputy Governor went to the State Police Command to find out what the reasons for the invasion and belligerence at his residence were, he was detained by the police on trumped-up charges cobbled together by the regime of Senator Uzodinma.

Even when the police had granted Rt. Hon. Irona administrative bail and all the necessary conditions in the bail bond fulfilled, the regime of Senator Uzodinma still chose to keep him in police custody simply with the intention of getting a willing magistrate that would do the dirty job of committing the former Deputy Governor to prison.

We have it on good authority that two upright magistrates had defied every pressure from Imo State Government to lend their courts for such barefaced political vendetta.

Eventually, this afternoon, a willing magistrate court in Owerri went ahead to rule that the former Deputy Governor be remanded in the correctional facility, Owerri, over an obviously incompetent charge.

Imo PDP, therefore, condemns the intimidation of magistrates and manipulation of the judiciary the State by the government of Senator Uzodinma for the purpose of fighting perceived political foes and suppressing political dissent.

It is shocking that this unelected regime in Imo would descend so low as to clone the voice of former Deputy Governor Irona, all in a desperate effort to establish a case that the refined opposition leader did threaten that Imo would be ungovernable. And on the basis of this fabricated falsehood, the former Deputy Governor has been remanded in prison. This is the height of abuse of power!

For our Party, this whole persecution of Irona points to the desperation of Senator Uzodinma to eliminate opposition leaders in Imo State so as to establish an empire where his bloodthirsty reign will go unchallenged and where his will shall be law. But by the grace of God, this wicked agenda will never see the light of the day.

The Federal Government and security agencies should urgently intervene in this matter to tame this war-monger in Imo and safeguard civil liberties in the State.
