Tragedy struck at Saki Jiki village in Batsari Local Government Area of Katsina State as an officer of the Katsina State Police Command lost his life in a bandit attack on Thursday night. The bandits, reportedly disguised in Hijab, targeted the officer’s duty post, leaving another policeman injured.

The confirmation came from Abubakar Aliyu, the spokesperson for the Katsina State Police Command, who addressed newsmen on Friday. Aliyu disclosed that the incident occurred at 8 pm on Thursday, and the police were swift in responding to the situation at the duty post.

In a statement, Aliyu said, “Yesterday (Thursday) at about 8 pm, some suspected armed bandits, deceitfully dressed in hijab, attacked officers at their duty post situated in Saki Jiki village of Batsari Local Government Area. The officers responded bravely and successfully repelled the attack. However, one officer lost his life and another was injured as a result of the attack. Further development will be communicated in due course, please.”

The bandits’ use of deceptive attire adds a concerning dimension to their modus operandi, posing challenges for security forces in the region.

Katsina State has witnessed a surge in bandit attacks recently, with Batsari Local Government Area experiencing at least two attacks within the week. Additionally, last week, bandits targeted Kukar Babangida village in Jibia Local Government Area, claiming the lives of nine residents, including the village head.

Furthermore, the bandits reportedly abducted three students from a private university in the state on Sunday, underscoring the escalating security concerns in the region. Authorities are intensifying efforts to address the security challenges and protect the lives and property of residents in Katsina State.
