The Labour Party Presidential Candidate Peter Obi has debunked the social media messages trending allegedly calling for a nationwide protest tagged END-INEC over the refusal of the independent national electoral commission INEC to allow labour party legal team access to inspect February 25 presidential election materials despite court order.

According to the message which has no signatory of any Labour Party official, said that the nationwide protest is necessitated due to the blatant refusal of INEC to grant labour party team access to inspect February 25 presidential election materials accross the country.

The letter further stated that despite the appeal court order INEC is yet to adhere to the ruling granting them access to only 2 states out of the 9 States which they requested for.

The letter further directed Nigerians and lover’s of Peter Obi to lock their shops, schools, businesses and come out on the 20th March 2023 to protest in the INEC headquarters in their various states.

But Mr Peter Obi in a post on his official Facebook handle said that the directives can only emanate from the opposition who are using every means to discredit the Obidient movement.

My attention has been drawn to social media postings suggesting that a nation-wide groundswell “#ENDINEC”, “#ENDNigeria” Protest is being planned by the Obidients. We are aware that those postings are being orchestrated by the Opposition.

My position is clear: Without prejudice to constitutional dictates on freedom of speech and freedom of assembly, I have publicly stated that in the matter of reclaiming our stolen mandate, we shall do so robustly, via the Courts and Due Process.

Regardless of the misgivings many may have about our Judiciary, we must strive to build strong and resilient institutions, of which the Judiciary is one.

As a firm believer in the separation of powers between the three arms of government, I am conscious that every so often, the Judiciary is called upon to vindicate itself on epochal national public-interest issues. The matter presently before the Presidential Electoral Tribunal (PET) is one such litmus test case.

Therefore, we are committed to pursuing Due Process in an unfettered manner. That is our primary and priority option.
