NCC Denies Leaking Peter Obi And Oyedepo’s Trending Audio Conversation.

The Nigerian Communication Commission NCC has denied the rumours and alligation that the commission was responsible for the tracking and leakage of the alledged conversation between the Labour Party Presidential candidate Peter Obi and Bishop David Oyedepo the general overseer of Living Faith Worldwide.

Recall that their has been an audio tape of s conversation ofe Peter Obi and Bishop Oyedepo trending on social media which has attracted wide criticism from political and non political actors.

In the conversation, Peter Obi was heard pleading with Bishop Oyedepo to help talk to his church members including Kwara people to vote for him.

In audio it was alledged that Peter Obi said that Nigeria are in religious war following the Muslim-Muslim Presidential candidate of the APC.

Also Bishop David Oyedepo has come out to denied the said conversation saying that he has never campaigned for any politician of any political party in all his life.

According to him, many politicians came seeking his and counsel but he rejected them all.

He was alledged that the Nigerian Communication Commission NCC are responsible for leaking the said conversation.

Reacting to the alligations, the NCC through a statement by Reuben Muoka
Public Affairs Nigerian Communications Commission on Tuesday, 4th April 2023, said that the commission under the law has not right to track or leak telephone conversation of anyone.

The Statement Reads

PRESS STATEMENT

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has been inundated with enquiries by the media on allegations of telephone “tracking” and “leakage” made against the Commission by some individuals and groups in the social and alternative media.

The Commission wishes to make the following clarifications:

i. The Commission denies the allegations in their entirety.

ii. By the provisions of the Nigerian Communications Act (NCA) 2003 and other extant Laws of the Federation, the Commission does not and cannot “track” nor “leak” telephone conversations of anyone.

iii. The Commission has reported the allegations, which we take seriously, to relevant security agencies for proper investigation and necessary action.

iv. The Commission restates its commitment to discharge its responsibilities to the Nigerian people in accordance with the provisions of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria; the NCA 2003; other extant Laws of the Federation; and global best practices.

For the avoidance of doubt, the Commission denies these allegations and advises the public to disregard them.
