The Independent National Electoral Commission INEC has denied the allegation that the commission has appointed a member and one of the close friend of the Presidential Election of the APC Asiwaju Bola Tinubu as it’s ICT head ahead of the March 18th governoship and State Assembly election across the country.
Recall that Chief Bode George a former governor of Ondo State has raised an alarm over the appointment of one Femi Dubuiyi who was a former Lagos State Commissioner and a close friend to Tinubu as head of INEC ICT to operate in BVAS.
According to Bode George the appointment of Mr Femi by INEC is another means of rigging the forthcoming election adding that it is unconstitutional for INEC to appoint a close associates of any politician to serve during an election.
In response to the above accusation by Bode George, the INEC National Commissioner and Chairman Information and Voter Education Committee Barrister Festus Okoye Tuesday 14th March 2023 released a statement debunking the rumour.
According to Festus Okoye, the alledged name “Femi Dubuiyi” did not exist within INEC ICT department in their headquarters in Abuja or in any State of the commission.
The Statement Reads;
ALLEGED APPOINTMENT OF A PARTISAN PERSON AS HEAD OF ICT
The attention of the Commission has been drawn to a widely publicised report attributed to a well known Lagos politician, Chief Olabode George, that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has appointed one Femi Odubiyi, a former Commissioner in Lagos State and an associate of a prominent politician, as its Head of ICT.
Nothing can be further from the truth.To set the record straight, the name “Femi Odubiyi” does not even exist within our ICT Department at the INEC headquarters in Abuja or any State office of the Commission.
Our ICT staff are career officers of the Commission. None has held any political appointment in any State of the Federation.
The public is urged to disregard the story. Its promoter should have been circumspect so as not to be seen as a purveyor of fake news.
