I Never Collected Any Bribe To Announce Binani Winner ~Suspended Adamawa REC.

The suspended Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Adamawa State, Barrister Hudu Yunusa Ari, who was recently suspended, has denied allegations that he received a N2 billion bribe to declare Senator Aishatu Dahiru Binani as the winner of the Adamawa State governoship election.

Senator Aisha Dahiru Binani was the the All-Progressives Congress (APC) governoship candidate during the 2023 election, challenging the incumbent Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate who was later declared the winner of the election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Recall that there was controversies when Professor Hudu Yunusa-Ari declared Aisha Dahiru Binani winner of the election in the middle of the election when collation of results was still ongoing after the Supplementary election in April.

The action which INEC National leadership condemned saying that the action of the Adamawa REC was against the electoral code of conduct and was suspended immediatey.

In an interview with the BBC Hausa Service on Tuesday, Barrister Hudu Yunusa maintained that he had no regrets about announcing the result in the middle of the election, as it was his responsibility backed by the law.

He also stated that he was willing to present himself to the police this week, adding that neither the Department of State Services (DSS) nor the Nigerian Police had come looking for him, as had been widely rumored.

According to him,” I never said the Governor bribed anyone, but I knew there were allegations.”

“I swear, I had nothing to do with either Binani or Fintiri. All these stories about the N2 billion bribe were social media hype.”

” I have no regrets whatsoever, when you do something that was allowed to be done in a democracy, there are no regrets,” he said.
