Danny Drinkwater: From Premier League Champion To Manual Labourer

Most of us football fans always see our favourite footballers hanging boots after reaching the peak of their career to become sports analyst, coaches, commentators, pundits and even club owners.

However, a few of them take a different career route after the end of their footballing career. One of them is the topic of discussion in this story, and he is no other person but Danny Drinkwater.

Danny Drinkwater

Danny Drinkwater started his football career from Manchester United youth academy but never made it to the senior team at Old Trafford. He started going on loans to clubs like Barnsley and the likes till he eventually signed a full-time deal with Leicester City in 2012.

In Leicester City, his career started making sense as he was instrumental in making the foxes get a promotion to the premier league. As if that wasn’t enough Danny Drinkwater put up a stellar performance all through the 2015/2016 season to help Leicester win the league.

This made him become a cynosure of most premier league big clubs.

He eventually made a record move to Chelsea for £35 million at the start of the 2017/2018 premier league season. This was where problems started for him as he couldn’t make his debut for the blues on time due to an injury.

He later made his debut, and started suffering subsequent injuries and poor run of form which made Chelsea to start sending him on a series of loans after only making 23 appearances for the Stamford Bridge outfit.

After series of loan spells at Kasimpasa, Aston Villa, and Burnley, Drinkwater’s Chelsea’s contract finally expired in 2022. He (Drinkwater) couldn’t get any interesting offers after parting ways with Chelsea, so he eventually called it quit from football in 2023.
