The presidential candidate for labour party Mr Peter Obi has urged Nigerians to bear with the Central Bank Of Nigeria in the ongoing currency redesign policy which has caused scarcity of old and new naira notes in the country.
Peter Obi made this know in a message on his Facebook page on Sunday morning 5th February 2023.
According to Obi the ongoing currency redesign exercise comes with some inconvenience pains to Nigerians, but it also has a long-term economic and social benefits that the policy will offer to Nigerians.
He further appealed to the Central Bank of Nigeria that while Nigerians are having patients for them to carry out this policy, they should also expedite efforts to making the new currency available to Nigerians especially the small depositors and unbanked in the rural areas to reduce the sufferings of the people.
“The currency redesign is not peculiar to Nigeria. It is an exercise that comes with some inconvenience and pain but it has significant longterm economic and social benefits.
“Even though there are improvements that can be made, I urge Nigerians to bear with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and Federal Government with the hope that the general populace and Nigeria will harvest the gains that will come with the reforms.
We equally implore the CBN and the banks to expedite efforts to make the new currency available to small depositors and the unbanked in order to reduce the pains of my fellow Nigerians, especially the underprivileged and those living far away from banks in the rural areas.PeterObi 🇳🇬
