CFM CELEBRATES VETERAN IGBO FOLKLORIST MIKE EJEAGHA AS HE TURNS 93

From Omekagu to Odogwu Nari Enu to Onye Ori Ụtaba to Ụwa Mgbede Ka Mma…Mike Ejeagha has continued to bless our earbuds since the 60s.

Fondly referred to as the father of Igbo folklore music, Mike Ejeagha has 33 albums and 4 singles to his name. His career as a musician started in the mid-20th century but he recorded his first hit album in 1960.

Born on April 4, 1930, Mike Ejeagha is a legend, a hero, an inspiration, a music icon, a master of his craft, and a rare gem. The guitar is his principal instrument. In his minstrelsy, he doubles as the guitarist, the narrator, and the lead singer. Ejeagha’s genre is referred to as “Akuko N’egwu” (story-telling in music).

Mike Ejeagha is a crusader of peace, love, and communalism. These formed the core of the messages contained in his music. He exemplifies the Igbo value and philosophy of contentment and deferred gratification. He is the definition of “ezi aha ka ego”; a true Gentleman.
