ASUU strike: Onyeagucha Calls For Immediate Closure Of All Private Tertiary Institutions In Nigeria

The PDP Senatorial candidate for Imo East Senatorial District, and the former secretary of the state government under Emeka Ihedioha administration,Hon Barr Uche Onyeagucha has called for the immediate closure of all private Tertiary Institutions in Nigeria in solidarity with Public Universities which have remained on strike for some months now as a result of the federal government not meeting to the demands of ASSI.

Hon Onyeagucha made the call when he received in audience Owerri zone Students Forum who paid him a solidarity visit on Thursda,23rd June 2022

Hon Onyeagucha described the ASSU strike as unfair and injust allowing private Tertiary Institutions to be in session while public universities remained shutdown for close to seven months now as precipitated by the inability of the federal government to meet up with their demands.

“It is unfair to allow private Tertiary Institutions to be in session while the public universities remained closed for more than seven months. If the federal government can remained unperturbed by allowing public universities to be on strike up to this moment, then private universities should as well be closed down. It is unfair to allow private Tertiary Institutions where children of the rich are schooling, to be in session while only the public universities are closed down.He said

Hon Onyeagucha further urged the students to rise up and match to the streets in repudiation to the lingering industrial action by ASUU. He later charged the students to demand for the immediate closure of all private Tertiary Institutions in Nigeria if the Federal Government fails to meet with the conditions and demands of the Academic Staff Union of Universities.

He reassured the Students of his esteemed commitment to defending the rights and interests of both the students and the ASUU, especially in ensuring that incessant strike actions in our Tertiary Institutions are reduced.

In their earlier remarks, the National President of Owerri zone students Forum, Chukwuemeka Abraham and the National President of Igbo Students Union, Igwe Justus Okoro, described Hon Onyeagucha as the only Candidate that can defend the interest of the people of Owerri zone.

“Among all the Senatorial candidates in Owerri zone, Hon Onyeagucha is the best and most qualified. He is the only Candidate who can stand firm to defend and speak for the people of Owerri zone and the entire Igbo race. In view of this, we adopt him for the 2023 Owerri Senatorial election”.

Highpoint of the event was the adoption of Hon Uche Onyeagucha for the 2023 Owerri Senatorial election.
